Knowing how important your time, money, and expertise are, I strive to provide a high degree of value and quality instruction to my students. I want you to be able to afford my services and be confident that you are receiving a great value. I love working with those who want to learn, and I enjoy the moments where I see the light bulb come on, those "aha" moments. It's an instant reward to see my students feel empowered with new knowledge and know we have accomplished something together.

I have a BA in English coupled with a current CA credential in Secondary Education. I have tutored off and on for over ten years, apart of which I also taught high school English for five as well. I have worked with a variety of ages and abilities, from kindergarten through adult learners.

I also have a Masters degree in International Relations, something that resulted from my interest in History and International Economics/ Politics. My interest in international issues led to travel and acquiring Spanish as a second language. I am conversant and literate and able to tutor most high school and lower-intermediate level Spanish courses.

Also, I have had twelve years of piano lessons and played for many more, since the age of five. So, I am capable of assisting those who are interested in taking up the piano.

I would love to assist you, your child, or a referral you may have. Please contact me if you're needing assistance in any of the above areas.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

A credentialed English teacher for 5 years and a reading and writing tutor for many more, I have helped struggling students for more than 10 years combined.

I have spent many of these years with 9th-12th grade learners. Instructing high school students has included preparing them with the appropriate strategies to pass many important exams: high school exit, ACT, and SAT.

Please contact me for any ACT English tutoring you may need. Thank you!

English

My passion for reading inspired me to study English in college. In college, I discovered not only how to master writing, but to love it. At that time, I began tutoring and helping elementary through university age students in reading, writing, and other areas of English/language arts.

Eventually, I realized I wanted to become a teacher and earned my credential.

Between tutoring and teaching, I have now accumulated more than 10 years of experience instructing students in English. I'd love the opportunity to help you or your child, too!

Spanish

Learning Spanish became a central part of my life many years ago. After taking four years in high school I was literate but not conversant. I kind of forgot about Spanish and didn't have much opportunity to practice until an opportunity arose for me to spend a month in Costa Rica.

I studied several hours a day for a month at the Costa Rican Language Academy and was conversant in Spanish after that. For several years after that, during summer and winter breaks while teaching, I traveled to other Spanish speaking countries. I studied Spanish at other academies, lived with host families, and learned the culture.

As a result, I am now literate AND conversant in Spanish. Since I learned it as my second language and have taught English Language Learners, I understand what it is like to acquire a second language and how to do so. Please consider me as a tutor if you are learning Spanish as a second language.

Writing

I am a credentialed English teacher with five years of classroom experience and many more as a tutor.

I welcome the opportunity to assist you with improving your writing. I have worked with English Learners and all levels of ability from junior high to university level, with an emphasis in assisting high school students.

As a college prep and GATE instructor, I was able to help students write papers that enabled them to enter Honors English classes. As a teacher and tutor, I have also helped hundreds of students pass college entrance writing exams and compose stellar applications.

Please contact me for any tutoring you may need. Thank you!
