I have been teaching both accounting and computer science at Palomar College part time since 2002. I also have a BS in Math, a California Single Subject Math Teaching Credential and will be earning an MA in Math Teaching by the end of 2012. I have been tutoring math and other subjects since 2004. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Accounting

I have been teaching Accounting at Palomar College since 2004. Every summer I teach Financial Accounting and Accounting with Excel. Currently we use Excel 2010. I also teach QuickBooks during the school year and have taught Managerial Accounting.

ACT Math

I have been tutoring math for SAT and ACT for several years now. I am currently also in training with a firm to become an expert on the test strategies as well.

Algebra 1

I have successfully tutored middle school and high school students in algebra one including helping them brush up on pre-algebra math skills such as fractions, decimals and percentages...all of which you will need to know in algebra one. I can show you how to work with variables and solve equations, how to graph the equations and much more.

Algebra 2

I have successfully tutored many students in algebra 2 and in precalculus. I have a BS in math and will earn an MA in math teaching this December.

Aspergers

I have worked as a special education aide in the Poway School District, working with students with Asperger's who were mainstreamed into general ed classrooms who needed an aide with them. I have also worked with adults with Asperger's in my computer science teaching at Palomar College. They were well able to complete the work in computer science.

Autism

I have a 22 year old son with autism and several nieces and nephews on the autism spectrum. I have worked with my son and with other students with autism in the Poway Unified School District. I am a member of the San Diego Autism Society.

Business

I have been working for Palomar College's business department since 2004 teaching all sorts of accounting classes. I have also run small businesses myself and can help with business math and business law.

C

I have been teaching computer science at Palomar College since 2002. I also tutor C and C++ nearly daily to an engineer at Qualcomm working on cell phones. And I have a Certificate in C programming from UCSD extension.

C++

I have been teaching computer science at Palomar College since 2002. I started by teaching Java and C/C++ and then branched out to teaching Linux and Data Structures. Currently I do a lot of C++ work.

Calculus

I have tutored several students in Business Calculus at SDSU. I have also tutored high school students in calculus.

CBEST

I took the CBEST and earned my California Single Subject Teaching credential in Math in 2006 after also passing the required subject matter tests. Math is an important part of the CBEST and I have tutored math since 2004.

Computer Engineering

I was a software engineer from 1987 - 2006. After that I have been teaching C/C++, Java and Python. I currently tutor a C++ engineer at Qualcomm.

Computer Programming

I was a software engineer for about ten years and have also been teaching C++ and Java for Palomar College. Currently I tutor a student in C++ every week.

Computer Science

I have been teaching computer science at Palomar College since 2002. I started by teaching Java, Visual Basic, Data Structures and Algorithms and C/C++. Since 2005 I have been teaching C++ and Linux at Palomar College.

Criminal Justice

I have a JD in law and have tutored students in criminal justice.

Elementary Math

I have tutored math for all ages including grades k-6 and can also help with basic number skills, basic reading comprehension (needed for word problems).

Finance

I have an MBA in Finance. I have also successfully tutored SDSU students in the Executive MBA program in both Accounting and Finance.

GED

I am a Credentialed high school teacher and have been a substitute teacher in the Poway School District for math and other subjects. I am well able to help you with nearly all high school subjects and subject tests on the GED.

General Computer

I have been teaching Computer Science at Palomar College since 2002. I teach Linux currently but have taught basic Windows in the past, teaching the parts of the computer, how to use Windows and simple introduction to the Internet and web browsers.

Geometry

I have a BS in math and will earn my MA in math teaching at SDSU this year. I also have a CA Single Subject Math teaching credential for high school. I have been tutoring math since 2004.

Grammar

I have excellent skills in grammar and have always gotten good grades in English spelling, grammar and reading. I also score very highly on verbal tests such as the SAT, GRE and GMAT on grammar tasks.

Java

I have worked as a Java programmer for several years and have taught Java as well for several years.

Law

I graduated from the University of Oregon Law School with a J.D.

Linear Algebra

I have taken several linear algebra courses while earning my BS in math. In addition I have tutored students in linear algebra. I also took linear algebra classes in 2011 so I am current in the subject.

Linux

I have been teaching Linux since 2005 and every semester I ensure that we use the most current Linux distributions available. We also use VMWare.

Logic

I have taken two logic courses at SDSU during 2011 and 2010 from Professor Carl Eckberg during my MA in Math teaching. They were in the computer science and the math departments but both covered logic including truth tables, circuits and more.

MATLAB

I have been working with MATLAB and C++ together for several years now. I also used MATLAB in my graduate math classes.

Microsoft Excel

Some of the courses I have taught were MS Office as well as Personal Computers. Currently I teach Accounting with Excel each summer. We use Excel 2010 currently.

Microsoft Word

I have been using MS Word since it came out. Today I use Word 2010 and create many documents for teaching classes. In the past I taught MS Office courses at Palomar College.

Prealgebra

I have a BS in math and also have tutored math for students from grade K through college level. I even have workbooks for most grade levels in math if you need specific parts of math reviewed. I am patient and can explain things clearly.

Precalculus

I have tutored precalc every year since 2004, and I am currently tutoring a student in this right now (this year). I am very good with algebra, and that is what you are doing in precalc.

Probability

I taught Math 311 Probability and Statistics at SDSU for 3 semesters in 2010 and 2011.

Proofreading

I am an expert editor and can write well. I have a law degree and am a very good speller.

QuickBooks

I have been teaching QuickBooks at Palomar College since QB 2006. I have two QB classes for Fall 2012 using QB 2012.

Reading

I have always done well in English classes of spelling, reading and grammar. I also do very well on reading comprehension tests such as the SAT and ACT. I have also tutored both reading and math for the SAT and ACT tests and my students did much better after my tutoring than they expected to do.

Special Needs

I have worked in the past as a Special Ed aide in the Poway Unified School District. I have two sons with special needs: one has schizophrenia and the other has autism. I have also taught students with special needs in my college classes and I work with each student individually so that the student can be successful in my classes.

Spelling

I have tutored quite a few elementary school students in spelling.

Statistics

I taught three semesters of Probability and Statistics at SDSU in 2010 and 2011 (Math 311) while earning my MA in Math Teaching there.

Trigonometry

I have been tutoring high school math since 2004 and have worked at Sylvan Learning Center as well teaching math including trig. I have taught it to students in Algebra 3/4 and in Precalc. So no matter what grade level or math class you are in, if you need to know about the sine, cosine, tangent, cotangent, secant and cosecant (all trig functions), I can help.

UNIX

I have been teaching UNIX commands and shell scripting at Palomar College since 2005. I know the bash shell.
