My tutoring experience began when I participated in the Southeast San Diego tutoring program. This program is an internship where undergraduate students help students in elementary or middle schools get a better grasp at what they're learning. I was involved in a school that was a combination of an elementary and middle school so I was able to tutor both age groups. I've been tutoring there for around a year and plan to continue next fall.

By participating in this program I've been able to view different teaching methods. Even though I've only had experience tutoring younger age groups I am still able to tutor anyone who needs the help and is serious about gaining the knowledge they need.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Spanish

Spanish was my first language so I am fully capable of reading, writing, and speaking it. In my home, it is encouraged to only speak Spanish in order to preserve not only our knowledge of the language but also our heritage.
