Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I can help your son prepare for the ACT English Test and can guide him to accomplish the wide variety of decisions involved in revising and editing a given piece of writing. I am confident that I can teach him a good understanding of the conventions of standard written English.

ACT Math

I can help prepare your child for the ACT Math test by teaching concepts and problem solving in Elementary Algebra and Intermediate Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry.
Teaching Algebra would involve basic operations using whole numbers, decimals, fractions, and integers; place value; square roots and approximations; the concept of exponents; scientific notation; factors; ratio, proportion, and percent; linear equations in one variable; absolute value and ordering numbers by value; elementary counting techniques and simple probability; data collection, representation, and interpretation; and understanding simple descriptive statistics.
For Geometry, the conceptual teaching will be based on the properties and relations of plane figures, including angles and relations among perpendicular and parallel lines; properties of circles, triangles, rectangles, parallelograms, and trapezoids; transformations; the concept of proof and proof techniques; volume; and applications of geometry to three dimensions.
The guidance in Trigonometry will provide an understanding of trigonometric relations in right triangles; values and properties of trigonometric functions; graphing trigonometric functions; modeling using trigonometric functions; use of trigonometric identities; and solving trigonometric equations.

Algebra 1

The main goal of this course is to provide students with a thorough and extensive study of linear equations and quadratic functions and graphing on the xy-coordinate system. By the end of this course, students will have all the knowledge necessary to solve and graph equations and inequalities. They will also be able to apply this knowledge to other areas of math, such as word problems, ratios and proportions.

I can help students to solve linear and quadratic equations and help with tables, graphs etc. Students will generate equivalent expressions and use formulas.

I can help them simplify polynomials and begin to study quadratic relationships.

Anatomy

I have my first MS degree in Medical Microbiology which was a 3 year course. In the first year, we were well trained in the lab and lecture of Human Anatomy, Physiology and Human Biochemistry which gave an insight to the clinical aspects of our body and function.
I have aced the class and have helped a couple of students succeed with A grade in their Human Anatomy and Physiology learning. I have also had experience working with dissection and taught by well known people in the field of study.
I teach the concepts of the subject very well and build a good foundation before I move on to teaching the details of the concerned anatomy. I am patient, detail oriented, caring and want the best for my students to succeed in their learning abilities.

Biology

I can help your son by giving an approach to the study of biology that emphasizes conceptual understanding of biological systems. These areas include evolution and the origin of life, cellular processes, Mendelian and molecular genetics, ecology, behavioral science, and basic physiological systems. The interrelationship of these areas and their effect on human biology will be taught with examples.

Botany

I have done my Bachelors B.Sc in Botany with ancillary subjects in Zoology, Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry and stood 3rd in the university among 3000 students with a high score for all years. I am proficient in all the courses covered in Botany, Zoology, Chemistry and also had Food Microbiology as my ancillary subject.

I have also tutored students at home and in college as an adjunct faculty in these subjects including lab practicals starting from the study of Algae, Fungi, Gymnosperma, Angiosperm, Pines and Cycads, Plant Physiology, Plant Taxonomy, Plant breeding, Genetics, Cytology, Histology, Morphology etc.
Likewise, I have completed all the course work and lab for Chemistry, Zoology and Food microbiology.
I teach the concepts of each subject chapter by chapter with examples and ensure there is effective learning for the student to grasp the subject.

College Counseling

I have a double Master's degree and also have spent more than a decade teaching in community colleges, adjunct faculty in private college and also home tutoring. This has given me an opportunity to enhance the study skills of students, organize their course work and teach in parts and help counsel the students with the next course work to take.

I also help with guiding students with which subjects would be useful for them to study based on their knowledge and interest level and have guided many students who have taken the Applied Biotech course I taught at 2 community colleges. I also refer entry level jobs to some of my students who take the vocational hands on course that I teach and have helped them.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a great interest in teaching and have handled students from 1st to the tenth grade, teaching them English, Math, Sciences, Geography, History and Social Studies. The students have done quite well and so they continued the following years as well with my tutoring.

I have had a wonderful experience teaching children and am innately able to form a rapport with them and guide them in their learning. I can help students learn appropriate math, learning concepts, and doing homework problems together in math class.

With respect to English, I focus on teaching the students reading, spelling, vocabulary, writing and grammar.

I have had experience teaching children Science (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Social Studies & Geography focusing on making them understand concepts and principles by giving examples (both practical and theoretical) and further sequential learning.

Understanding concepts, analyzing things, build their intellectual curiosity about why and how things work & memorization will be a strong focus for all the above subjects.

English

I have been teaching students English from first grade to high school when I myself was an undergraduate student and after my second master's, I have been doing part time teaching in addition to my main job.

I am quite good at English and am certain that I can help your son to learn better English to write, read, speak and spell. I can help students in building their vocabulary, synonyms and antonyms, reading comprehension, improve their reading and writing skills, use grammatical sentences and help with spelling and pronunciation of words.

I enjoy teaching and have always had a passion for it and would be happy to impart the knowledge that I have acquired to others.

ESL/ESOL

I have a great passion for teaching and very much enjoy it. I have had experience teaching students from 1st grade to high school in English (both spoken and written).

I had to take the ESL (English as a Spoken Language) and TOEFL exams (Test of English as a Foreign Language) to apply for graduate school here, and passed both with flying colors.

I also have helped teach English without a fee to children of families who could not afford to pay.

I can assure you of I will teach English well so that the student becomes an effective communicator in English, and will be able to read, write and speak English confidently.

Genetics

I enjoy teaching very much, particularly Biology and Genetics as it is my niche area.

I have done my first Masters of Science, M.Sc in Medical Microbiology (Univ. of Madras) where a couple of my subjects included Human Genetics and General Bacterial Genetics.

For my second Master's degree in Molecular Biology and Immunology at USC, I had to take intensive courses on Prokaryotic Molecular Genetics, Eukaryotic Molecular Genetics, Molecular Biology of Cancer, Cell and Developmental Biology besides several other courses.

I have also been teaching part-time Applied Biotechnology in the local community colleges for the past twelve years. The students included people from a wide background and I have really felt gratified passing on the knowledge and experience I have gained to them.

I am also a full time biotech professional and have experience in molecular biology, bacterial genetics, recombinant protein expression, cloning, PCR, molecular diagnostics etc.

Geometry

Geometry introduces the study of points, segments, triangles, polygons, circles, solid figures, and their associated relationships as a mathematical system. Emphasis is placed on the description and use of inductive, deductive, and intuitive reasoning skills. Powers of abstract reasoning, spatial visualization and logical reasoning patterns are improved through this course.
The focus is on comparisons between these figures concerning surface areas, volumes, congruency, similarity, transformations, and coordinate Geometry. Algebra I & II skills are use throughout the course.
The main focus of geometry is on plane and solid figures and their properties. A major emphasis is triangle properties and relationships. Coordinate graphing, slope, and linear equations are also presented. Through the study of geometry, the student will:
• Develop proficiency in using geometry to solve problems in everyday life.
• Expand his/her understanding of mathematical concepts.
• Improve his/her logical thinking skills
• Gain an understanding of geometry as a study of the mathematical relationships of objects in
the world around us.
• Gain an appreciation of how mathematics relates to the world of work.

Microbiology

I enjoy teaching very much, particularly Microbiology as it is one of my favorite subjects.

I have done my first Masters of Science, M.Sc in Medical Microbiology (Univ. of Madras) and it was a three year course, the first year focusing on Human Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry.

The second and third year involved course work in General Microbiology,Systemic /Clinical Microbiology, Virology, Mycology, Parasitology, Animal Work, Immunology etc along with practicals in each subject. For the clinical microbiology practicals, we were trained to diagnose different microbes in pure and mixed culture from many different samples and specimens for identification and isolation.

I also had to work on a two year clinical project that was presented for my Master's thesis cum dissertation.

For my second Master's degree in Molecular Biology and Immunology at USC, I had to take intensive courses on Prokaryotic Molecular Genetics, Eukaryotic Molecular Genetics, Molecular Biology of Cancer, Cell and Developmental Biology besides several other courses.

Yoga

Hello,
I am Geetha and enjoy yoga very much that it has become a part of my life. Yoga gives me a lot of physical and mental relaxation, keeps my body toned and makes me feel energized and rejuvenated.
I have been taught yoga from my 6th grade (middle school) until high school when I was a student as we used to have yoga daily for 20 minutes during the morning assembly.
I got re-introduced to yoga through a work colleague of mine to BKS I's method here at San Diego. I have had the privilege of practicing BKS I's yoga for three years at a local studio and have continued practicing Hatha yoga with Vinyasa for the past thirteen years.
It involves poses like the mountain pose, dog pose, warrior pose, trikonasana, cat and cow pose, Surya namaskar, forward and back bend, side bends, hip bends, shoulder rolls, uthkatassana, bridge pose, butterfly pose and many others. Conscious Breathing/Pranayamam is an integral part of yoga and is also used to slow the thoughts and still the mind.
I have taught yoga to family members and friends and helped them stay in the right pose by aligning them properly. I would like to teach yoga to people so that they can do the different poses (to the extent possible) and hold them for sometime, improve their breathing and make themselves more flexible, relaxed and at peace with themselves.

Zoology

I am proficient in all the courses covered in Botany, Zoology, Chemistry and also had Food Microbiology as my ancillary subject. I have done my Bachelors B.Sc in Botany with ancillary subjects in Zoology, Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry and stood 3rd in the university among 3000 students with a high score for all years and a cumulative score.
