BACKGROUND:

First a little about me and then you can read on if you would like to get an understanding of my teaching philosophy. My spouse, daughter and I moved to the San Diego area a few years ago and are settling in and enjoying the weather and all of the wonderful things to do throughout the county. My degree is in accounting from CSU Stanislaus, but my background ranges along the spectrum of job experiences from waiting tables in college to being a buyer/purchasing manager for two international clothing companies. I've held positions in retail management, banking and have worked full time as a Realtor for the last 10+ years.

I have over 15 years of experience working with computers and many forms of software, especially Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc). I am certified at over 10,000 keystrokes/minute with near 100% accuracy in Excel & type 50+wpm with 95% accuracy. I know tons of shortcuts, tips and tricks when it comes to using these programs. I am a Certified zipForms Trainer (real estate transaction software) and am constantly being sought out by my peers for assistance with computer/software, iOS, networking and related advice and help.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

My teaching philosophy works for anything from basic reading on up to advanced algebra & specialized computer skills.

#1 I make you **think** - if you don't know the answer, that's OK! But you will think about it....

#2 I make you **read the question** - if you don't know what the question is asking, how can you answer it??

#3 I make you **try** - if you try and are still wrong, you're still closer to being right because you just eliminated an incorrect possibility.

#4 I make learning **fun** - yes, math can be fun....so can reading, grammar, and learning general computer skills.

#5 I won't **give** you the **answer** - but I will give you the ability to figure it out.

My goal is to facilitate the LEARNING process so that the individual can grasp the concepts and feel confident the next time they need to work out a problem, write that essay for an A or simply use the computer.

Poker

I have been playing most variations of poker for over 30 years. Poker is one of those games where it takes a short time to learn and a LIFETIME to master. I've held my own through the years, definitely winning more than I've lost. In 2010, I took 1st place in a 660 person no-limit Texas Hold'em tournament at the Venetian Deepstacks III event #10 (see http://goo.gl/IyU85 for the results page).

Understanding the basics of playing the game of poker. Understanding card ranks, hand ranks, possible outcomes, folding, checking, calling and betting using blinds and antes.

Advanced skills include:
-the art of the bluff
-game theory
-table position
-chip position
-calculating "outs"
-probability
-odds

Poker is a very cerebral game intertwined with logic and emotion. But the most important lesson of learning the game of poker (or any gambling for that matter) is to know what you're willing and able to lose without putting undue stress on your finances. As Kenny Rogers was so fond of singing in The Gambler...."you got ta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away and know when to run...."

Proofreading

You know that guy that catches all of the mistakes and isn't afraid to point them out to you? That's me! There's nothing more unprofessional and sloppy than using the wrong "there", "their" or "they're" in your resume, marketing piece or term paper. While that last sentence is a bit of hyperbole, it illustrates the point that what you put down on paper is a representation of YOU! I have corrected countless research papers, marketing pieces and board meeting presentations and can help you present yourself concisely and with proper grammar, punctuation and sentence structure.

You will BECOME a better writer...!
