I am a former instructor/professor at UCSD, and I spent four years during that time teaching for one of the college writing programs. I studied and lectured in the social sciences, and can assist in a variety of social studies and history courses. In addition, I have strong training in statistics and quantitative research methods, and worked closely with students in college-level statistics and research methods courses at UCSD. I specialize in writing, social studies, political science/civics, and introductory statistics courses. I am able to assist students at the college level, applicants to graduate school, as well as high school students in their third and fourth years.

In terms of my ability to tutor students in writing and English courses, I have extensive experience in helping students improve their writing and research skills, have graded numerous college-level papers and essays, and have also assisted in the book publishing process. I can help with essay content, ideas for essay subjects, and check and improve grammar and structure. I can provide thorough instruction in writing research papers and coaching students through the research process.

I also have experience helping students who have writing anxiety or just need a push to get started. I am able to provide assistance in writing for individual subject areas as well: English literature, social sciences, and history.

Outside of writing, I am experienced in teaching and helping students better understand and improve their coursework in a wide range of subjects: world history, American history, research methods, statistics, and politics/civics.

Finally, I can be extremely helpful when it comes to the college application process. The application essay can make or break an application, especially for students who do not have top GPAs. I can assist students in ensuring that their essays present them and their abilities in the best light possible.

It gives me great satisfaction to see students finally understand a difficult concept, feel confident about their writing, actually feel as though they are enjoying the writing process, and feel they have the tools they need to succeed in their coursework. I look forward to helping you- or your son or daughter- achieve that same success and improvement.

College Counseling

As a former graduate student and university instructor, I am able to offer students a number of services. I have extensive experience editing and assisting students in revision of their personal statements, application essays, and writing samples for graduate school and college applications.

In addition, I possess expert knowledge of strategies for student success in college and graduate school. I am extremely familiar with campus resources typically available to students, and can offer advice on research methods, research tools, organization, and coursework in many subjects.

Government & Politics

I worked for many years teaching government and political science courses at the university level, and can assist students in a variety of specialized subjects. I can help students who are in high school, as well as those in college/university undergraduate programs.

I truly enjoyed studying government and politics, and would love the opportunity to pass along what I've learned, as well as study strategies, to students requiring assistance.

Public Speaking

When I was younger, I struggled with public speaking, and indeed often was too hesitant to even speak during my classes. With the progression of my education and my need to lecture in college-level courses, I have over time developed strategies to overcome my fear, as well as sharpen my skills in public speaking. I am eager to help share my experience and tactics with others.

Social Studies

I have multiple years of experience in studying and teaching social sciences. I studied Political Economy as an undergraduate (including courses in political science, economics, and history), and have an MS in International Relations Research. I studied political science (international relations, comparative politics, and quantitative and qualitative research methods for social science) in a top-10 Ph.D. program. I acted as a teaching assistant and professor for multiple courses in the political science program. Finally, as an instructor for a UCSD writing program (The Making of the Modern World), I assisted students in studies of world history from the ancient world to the modern period.
