Hello everyone! My name is Mario and I am a recent graduate from the University of California, Irvine with a degree in civil engineering. I have the ability to really connect with a student and find where they are having trouble in the subject I am tutoring them in. I excel in mathematics, as it has come naturally to me since I was a child. I have 3 years of private tutoring experience, and am well aware of what methods and skills are needed to improve, and then excel in the subject at hand. I first get to know the student, and understand how the student learns his or her materials. This way I can teach the student in a way where he or she learns with ease.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have taught algebra 1 to fifteen students in my tutoring career. All of these students have improved by at least 2-4 letter grades. The concept of algebra is very important as it is the building block for all other math introduced in the future, so it is important that it is taught well and the grasp of the subject is attained from the beginning!

Algebra 2

I currently tutor 3 Algebra 2 students so this is one of the easiest subjects for me to teach.

Differential Equations

I have taken the courses in math at my university up to differential equations, which is the highest level of math needed to graduate with an engineering degree. The order is as follows: Calculus, Multi-variable calculus (parts 1 and 2), linear algebra, and finally differential equations.

Elementary Math

Most of my students fall in the grades of 5th-9th grade. Teaching elementary math is not as easy as many make it sound, as it takes patience and methods that kids will understand to absorb the material correctly. Discipline and warmheartedness (applied together) are key factors when it comes to teaching kids, and these are qualities a good tutor should possess.

Geometry

In Engineering, geometry is a key tool used to determine many solutions. Studying engineering has made me well accustomed to the subject and able to teach it with ease.

Macintosh

I am extremely accustomed to the Macintosh systems because of working with them for over 7 years. I have owned two of them and work with them on a daily basis, knowing the shortcuts and tricks that a Mac has to offer.

Prealgebra

Pre-algebra is an essential building block to the rest of a student's understanding in the field of mathematics. It is one of the first classes where variables are involved, (known as "letters" to the kids), so it is important to teach the concept of "letters" correctly. With me, those letters would be soon understood as variables!

SQL

I am currently an ETL Developer as my main job. I use SQL every day and can teach anyone trying to learn the basics of SQL.
