Hello, my name is Allen, and I'm hoping to tutor students in areas of beginning Math subjects (Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry) and also upper level math (Precalculus, Calculus). I have my B.S. in Structural Engineering from the University of California, San Diego and my M.S. in Structural Engineering from the University of Southern California (Go Trojans!). I have been through all math classes necessary for an engineering degree including Calculus I, II, and III, Vector Calculus, Differential Equations and Linear Algebra.

I am hoping to help students with various math subjects because I believe they are the basis for any upper level Math, Physics, or Engineering degrees. I also know how plenty of students may struggle with math. As a student I was lucky enough to have great mentors that helped me along the way and made learning math enjoyable. I hope to help students find enjoyment in school math as well as being a mentor for academic lessons as well. Coming from a family who have no degrees at all, I worked harder than most students did to obtain my degree. But I definitely needed the help of tutors and teaching assistants to do this. I hope to give back for my fortunes.

Thank you very much.

Allen’s subjects

Algebra 1

I feel Algebra is the basis for every Math subject proceeding. I use simple Algebra everyday during work to engineer structures. I have also tutored this subject multiple times and am very familiar with the content.

Algebra 2

Likewise with Algebra 1, these subjects I feel are the base for every math following. I am very familiar with having to use it for work purposes.

Alongside algebra, geometry, to me, is where math coincides with shapes/drawings. I feel it's a bit easier to tutor because it's more visual.

Prealgebra is the "bread and butter" of Math. I am highly passionate and very familiar with it because it is one of the only subjects used by everyday people/consumers.

Although precalculus can seem daunting, there are simple ways of thinking about concepts that I was taught in school and that I can teach as well.

Trigonometry is another subject I've tutored multiple times. I think it's because it unites all of algebra and geometry. It can be difficult but there are simple things to remember that I can teach to help through the subject.
