My dissertation for my PhD in clinical psychology is complete and on file at UMI. I am experienced in assessments and CAHSEE algebra preparation. I am also a fluent Spanish speaker. Elementary (K-6th)

I taught elementary grade mathematics for 22 years for the Los Angeles Unified School District. Additionally, I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, so mathematics is easy for me!

Phonics

Elementary phonics for reading grades K-3. I taught phonemic awareness both in English and Spanish. I emphasized the basic rules that associate letter to sound. I give exercises in sounding graphemes and morphemes and exercises in combining them to form words. I teach exceptions to the general rules of phonics.I can do task error analysis to pinpoint where students have trouble with word decoding and how to understand reading problems as an aphasia or dyslexia.

Study Skills

I taught study skills for 8 years as an adjunct faculty member at CSUDH for graduate students in special education. During that time, I taught test taking skills, study preparation for tests, and note taking.

Special Needs

I am a National Board Certified Teacher in Special Education, kindergarten to adult, certified in 2002. I taught special education for grades kindergarten to third grade for 8 years for the Los Angeles Unified School District. I also taught district intern teachers how to teach special education students as a district intern instructor for 2 years.

ESL/ESOL

I taught English as a Second language for 18 years for students K to 12th grade in a major Southern California school district. I have a Bilingual Certificate of Competence in Spanish from the State if California which is earned through examination both in written and verbal assessments in both English and Spanish. I prefer to use as much immersion and total physical response as possible to emphasize grammar and vocabulary.
