Previously a high school Biology and Honors Chemistry teacher in Tampa, FL, I recently stopped teaching full-time since so I can stay at home to raise and teach my 4-year-old daughter. We relocated back to California where both my husband and I actually grew-up, and where I attended high school and college.
I have a B.S. in Biology from CSUSM and an M.A. in secondary education from the University of Michigan. I am also a CA certified teacher in both Chemistry and Biology. In addition, I used to coach cheerleading for 5+ years, so I definitely have an outgoing personality needed for motivating students to grasp and understand challenging concepts.
I have a strong passion for teaching the sciences! I strive to use innovative ways to help students understand the material. I believe it is imperative for students to make connections in the classroom to relevancy outside of the classroom. The most effective way, in my experience, that students achieve this connection is by using hands-on (kinesthetic) learning methods, which is what I use in my teaching/tutoring methodology. I prefer the thinking “outside of the box” ideas. For example, food is one of my favorite teaching manipulatives :-)
I'm looking forward to helping you achieve your goals and exceed your expectations of what you think is possible in understanding and learning about Science!!
