I am a credentialed teacher who has taught English, Speech, Writing and Drama at the high school and middle school level. I use an organic approach that zeros in on the strengths and knowledge that the student brings to the table and uses that to build a bridge to what the student wants to learn. I am all about working as quickly or slowly as necessary to get you the results you are looking for.
I enjoy working with both kids and adults. Before becoming a teacher, I had careers in the media and financial industries, which have given me a great, practical business background along with excellent people skills. If you're an adult entering (or re-entering) the job market, I can sharpen those all-important speaking/writing/presentation skills that will give you the edge in these competitive times. Feeling a little insecure about computer literacy? I'm the perfect fun and patient coach to help you become proficient at basic programs like Word, Excel and Power Point that you'll use in most jobs. I've taught computer use to my 85 year old dad and I can teach you!
I am also a life-long theater person. I've directed many, many plays and worked with casts of all ages and ability levels, including kids and adults with learning or reading challenges. I think this is extraordinarily important, and here's why. The skills necessary to succeed as a performer -focus, discipline, goal-setting, creative thinking- are the very same needed to excel at school, work, or most any endeavor worth doing. Knowing how to reach someone and "get a performance out of him," as we say in theater, is really what teaching and learning are all about.
I'm the type of curious person with a quirky sense of humor who is fascinated by all kinds of people and all kinds of academic subjects. To me, learning is fun. Let me help make it fun for you or your child, too!
