I’m a credentialed and experienced teacher, mostly middle school math (I have taught the Language Arts/Ancient History Social Studies core too).
My favorite course and grade(s) to teach is Pre-Algebra with seventh and sixth graders. My youngest Pre-Al students ever, who went on to Algebra 1, were 9 years old. I like to inspire and empower the math super hero within.
Unlike other subjects, most people have strong valid feelings/opinions about math. The first step on the adventure towards success is to believe you can and align your self talk.... Next, have the right guide for the journey to help you collect and develop strategies and also support and challenge you onward.
My BA and Multiple Subject teaching credential are from UCLA. This credential includes single subject authorizations in mathematics and English and is California NCLB compliant current.
Study skills and organization are key, in grades 6-9 especially. Learning how to read and extract information, how to study smarter, and how to keep track and have follow-through to the end are critical skill set pieces. It's like the prep work of having your GPS, tools, instructions, decoder, and experience to decipher what you're looking for, how to do the task, and when and where to bring it.
One of my long time interests is fantasy fiction and reading. I was a Harry Potter club sponsor at a middle school for seven years.
...So even elementary students who may be reluctant readers are welcome to get help towards reading joy.
I am grateful for this opportunity to introduce myself and be considered as your tutor/coach/guide. I look forward to meeting you and to be a part of your learning adventure.
