A lifetime of experience and education has resulted in excellent qualifications for working with students of all ages, from toddlers through adults, especially those on the autism spectrum. A Montessori-certified preschool teacher with 15 years' experience, I have also earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and am currently nearing completion of a master's degree in marriage and family therapy. In addition, I have raised two children of my own, now teens, both of whom are on the autism spectrum as well as being gifted. My son also has learning disabilities. Having overcome learning disabilities myself to the point of being a member of my university's honors society, I am intimately familiar with special needs and how to accommodate them.
The Montessori method instructs teachers to observe their students in order to best learn how to teach them. Using this principle and my extensive familiarity with patterns of development, both typical and atypical, throughout the lifespan, I am able to match students of all ages and abilities with interventions and activities that are uniquely effective for their particular needs, personalities, and learning styles. I also have a very large personal inventory of learning materials, including Montessori materials, appropriate for ages from toddlers through elementary. I also have sensory therapeutic items for those with special needs.
