I have been teaching private and group voice lessons for three years, and can draw upon more than eight years of my own vocal training. I have experience working with children and adults, and work best with willing students! I love witnessing the internal exploration and intimate understanding that students reach through the discovery of their own voice, and want nothing more than to help them sing with ease and excitement.
I teach basic music theory and aural skills (ear training), much which is vocally based. My knowledge and love of music comes from my exceptional learning experience at Santa Clara. The teaching method I employ is the same method in which I was trained as a student and teacher, the Walden Method. This method is a philosophy based on the concepts DISCOVER, DRILL, and CREATE. I can teach improvisational singing as well as the study of improvisation as an art, musical notation and even writing your own songs! Lessons will be individualized as per the student's needs and desires.
I have had nine years of Spanish study including five months complete immersion in San Sebastian, Spain, and a year of Spanish tutoring experience. I teach Spanish from a beginning level up to conversational, and I will spend some time working on proper accent. My accent is mostly from Spain, though I first learned in a more local South or Central American Spanish accent.
I learned two years of Arabic in college, just up to the advanced level. I lost much of my knowledge of the language during my Spanish immersion, but I can still read and write in Arabic script.
