I have an extensive background in English, Writing, (Creative Writing - 10 books published on Smashwords as e-books and 2 paperbacks at PublishAmerica), Computer technology and associated software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Visual Basic and Dreamweaver (web page design). I graduated in 1993 from Memphis State University with a Bachelor of Liberal Studies in Writing. Prior to that I spent 20 years in the U.S. Navy traveling all over the world. I have worked as a teacher for 3 years in a high school Vocational Technical program teaching computer design and repair, cabling and networking and computer infrastructure. I earned my A+ certification during that time. At the present time I am working as a Substitute Teacher in California concentrating in the areas of Special Ed and ASD (Alternative Schools).

I can draw on experience ranging as widely as loading/unloading freight for a trucking company, writing grant requests for at-risk kids, managing an office for the Fedex Pilots Association, developing database programs for over 60 different companies in the metro-Memphis area and teaching computer related software programs like Microsoft Access, Word, Excel and Visual Basic in 2 college settings. I feel like my life experiences allow me to adapt to most of the challenges I face in today's fast-paced world.

American History

American History is vast in spite of being less than 300 + years in the making. There are so many facets of American History that learning about how early Americans lived is sometimes a daunting task. Do you study the American Revolution or the Civil War? How about the inventions like the Colt pistol that went into conquering the wild West? Industrial Revolution played a large part in the background toward making the American History the legacy it is today.

Vocabulary

What do we do with the vocabulary that we learn in school? Most of us use it the rest of our lives, whether we are aware of that fact or not.

How we speak to our peers depends upon the vocabulary we learned growing up. Some of it we obtained naturally from our family - most of it came by means of a book that had words and definitions in it.

Either way - we are judged by the vocabulary we use.

Grammar

Understanding English grammar is sometimes one of the most daunting tasks that face English language learners. It is after mastering how words are used in a sentence that people begin to understand the spoken language better. English language learners sometimes have a hard time understanding which words to use in which contexts.

Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel is a very powerful spreadsheet tool that can be used to store and display information about your business that you might want to show to clients and business partners to increase and enhance any data that you want to present.

Today's society is very sight-oriented and responds well to anything that can be graphically demonstrated. Excel far surpasses other programs in the generation of graphs and charts that sizzle and pop.

Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word is essential to my job as a writer, editor and publisher. Word functions as it should when it is transparent to the operator and allows us to type to our heart's content - save the file - restore the file - edit our previous work and re-save the corrected file.

Word is a complex program - having many moving parts that support us in the development of our thoughts onto paper. It is essential that we know how to use it properly.

Microsoft PowerPoint

My wife uses Powerpoint for her end-of-the-school-year ceremonies for her middle school kids. Pictures of the students coupled with appropriate music, fading scenes, and words of wisdom produce a setting where there isn't a dry eye in the assembly. Parents love seeing their children portrayed using Powerpoint.

Reading has impact on all of us as we strive to make sense of our world around us.

I use Dreamweaver8.0 as my web development tool. To me it is easier to use than some of the other web development packages on the market.

There is still a lot that I'm learning every day about using this tool, but you can log on to my website (which I can't give here) and view the progress that I've made. I have played chess for about 50 years, participating in numerous tournaments during that period of time.
