I have been tutoring for almost six years. I especially love working with students through their entire college and scholarship application process. At Stanford I majored in Human Biology (3.9 GPA, area of concentration in Neurobiology, with honors thesis in Feminist Studies), and completed an M.A. at Stanford in Modern Thought and Literature (in four years). I received Stanford's Award of Excellence, and the Francisco Lopes Prize for my honors thesis. I was a Rhodes Scholarship Finalist, and received multiple awards for my writing and innovative community health work, including the Stanford Major Grant, the Chappell Lougee Scholarship, the Dalai Lama Fellowship, and the Golden Gate Society for Coatings Technology Scholarship. I have extensive experience with peer counseling and volunteering with mental health patients.
I have tutored students in application and scholarship writing for years. My students have been accepted at universities including Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Stanford, USC, and UCS. My goal is always to make the application and testing process as stress-free as possible, facilitating communication between students and parents, setting up deadlines and goals, and working through many drafts and rewrites. My experience with peer counseling helps me minimize anxieties and maximally display your student's unique voice and skills.
I also enjoy tutoring SAT Math, Reading and Writing (I received 800s on both Reading and Writing), AP Chemistry, AP Biology, Physics, pre-calculus, algebra, geometry, SAT II subject tests, Latin, AP Literature/Composition, Physiology, Psychology, and History. While I often work with high school students (in subject material as well as organizational, test taking, and time management skills), I also have experience with children ages 5-13 as a former camp counselor, babysitter, and tutor. I am happy to work with students with special needs.
