Hi,
I am a licensed high school math teacher and certified track and field coach with over seven years of experience teaching, coaching, and tutoring high school students from Algebra 1 to Calculus, and SAT-ACT test prep.
Before graduating from the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, I started tutoring and coaching in my junior year of college at Berkeley HS and continued working as a math teacher in eastern North Carolina following graduation for five years. I earned my teaching certificate through East Carolina University.
I recently finished my fifth year teaching high school mathematics in a rural, Title 1 high school in Halifax County, North Carolina. I taught every core and state-tested math subject: Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus as well as led an SAT Prep program using following the Princeton Review program. I consistently produced significant academic student growth in state-mandated tests for Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry every semester.
I am a passionate teacher and will do whatever it takes to make sure my students perform at their highest level. I always work relentlessly to make sure my students meet their learning goals and are successful. For example, while a teacher I averaged 70 hour weeks, wrote numerous grants, raised tens of thousands of dollars for my classroom, and brought learning to life with exciting and engaging lessons.
I founded a joint SAT and college preparation program with over 40 students between several local high schools, with the goal of preparing students for the college application process.
I also head coached track and field, cross country, and basketball in high school for over seven years with great success. While coaching, I led the growth and resurgence of the track program, doubling its size and coaching runners and relay teams to the state meets every season for five years.
I can also help students with organizational and time management skills, including balancing academics with athletic pursuits and general school and college aspirations. I have found organization and study skills a huge factor in determining a student's ability to be successful in and out of the classroom.
Knowledge is power, and your education is the most important thing to you. I promise to always do my best to make sure my students make the most of their opportunities and education.
I am excited and eager to continue working as a tutor with students and helping them achieve their academic and learning goals.
I look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals!
