I am a recent graduate from Vanderbilt university. I majored in Cognitive Science, Child Development, and minored in English. My degree was conferred with honors May 2009. My proficiencies, thus, include: extensive knowledge of all majors schools of psychology and experimental practice; critical feedback and writing methods for creative writing and composition; literary analysis; proofreading and editing; APA formatting; basic and advanced statistical analysis; a breadth of exposure to many philosophical systems and world religions.
My tutoring methodologies stem from education classes taken at Vanderbilt's Peabody College of Education and Human Development--the consistently top-ranked education college in the United States. In tutoring, I direct the sessions to be optimally participatory for the client. The typical session structure consists of a brief review and dialog of previous, difficult topics and graded assignments turned in for my review the previous week. An outline of the session subject-matter is then structured with primary input from the client. Following this, cited problem areas will be explored, with a focus on applied understanding of concepts. Interspersed throughout the session, I deploy questions related to previously problematic content. The session ends with an assignment to be turned in at the beginning of the next meeting-- typically a "Topic Paper," which is a short essay related to any topic covered in the client's current problem class.
For younger clients, I utilize a repertoire of early childhood learning techniques scaled for the stage of development the child is assessed to be at. By measuring the developmental progress of the child, I can engage the child with targeted methods aimed at improving general areas that form the foundation of cognition and academic performance.
Due to my high level of motivation to be objective in applying my writing skills, knowledge of scientific practice, and methodology in a practical context, I am proficient in maintaining great attention to detail. My formal training and personal experiences have provided many of the relevant skills that would be expected in a variety of tutoring contexts.
