Hi, dear future friends. My name is Li. I am from China.
I have multiple teaching experiences that demonstrate my ability to comfortably instruct students at all levels of learning. I was a summer English instructor for four- to six-year olds and for ten- to twelve-year olds at the New Oriental English School (Guangzhou, China). At the end of my teaching term, I was honored the “Most Popular Teacher” award by students, their parents and my peers. More recently, as a graduate student at the San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI), I worked as a teaching assistant for two undergraduate courses and also as the Film Department Instructor for all film-production equipment.
My past experiences also attest to my communication abilities in both English and Mandarin Chinese. As an honor’s undergraduate student in TV and Broadcasting at the Southern China Agricultural University, I was the chief editor of a college radio station that boasted a daily audience of over 40,000 Chinese listeners. During this time, I was also a reporting intern for the Guangdong TV Station, where I wrote in-depth reporting stories and interviewed documentary subjects. As for English competency, aside from passing the TOEFL and IELTS examinations, I have gained a Master in Fine Arts degree from a notable US academic institution, have successfully instructed English speaking college students and have worked alongside English-speaking professionals on work varying from film productions to organizing social events on college campus.
I have six years work experience with video production, including producing my own projects and curating other people’s work. My personal work includes promotional videos, documentaries and narrative films. Notably, I produced and directed a documentary film for a Chinese NGO about a leper village in Southern China. The film went on to win top prizes at numerous film festivals, brought heavy local and national press coverage to the situation inside the leper village, and, ultimately, triggered an increase in the NGO’s volunteer base. I have also directed and produced promotional videos for sizable businesses; particularly, an advertisement for the largest online game company in China, “Perfect World”, which received 10,000 views within the first three days of posting on the company’s website.
My experience in production extends into radio broadcasting. I was Chief Editor of my undergraduate university’s broadcasting station (South China Agricultural University), which had a daily audience of over 40,000 people. As Chief Editor in a team of twenty students, I was in charge of assuring the quality of all program content, managing all technical aspects related to production as well as establishing the station’s presence on the web.
As a recent graduate in the Master of Fine Arts Filmmaking program at the San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI), I have made strong ties to the local creative community here in San Francisco, particularly in the areas of videography, photography and graphic design. My active involvement in productions and event planning both inside and outside the SFAI campus has allowed me to build a talented base of independent and freelance artists who could act as reliable resources for future video productions.
Lastly, I should point out that I thrive under high-pressure situations involving multiple tasks and deadlines. As my resume illustrates, I have successfully balanced several part time jobs, freelance photography and videography, graduate-level schoolwork and my own award-winning creative work.
I look forward to learning and studying together with you.
