CRLA Certified English Tutor w/ BA in English: Literature and Culture

I believe in teaching my students how to write a better essay, rather than just improving individual papers. I want your personal writing technique and style to improve overall. I am really friendly, so I do get tangential sometimes, but you always get your money's worth from me. I enjoy taking the time to get to know my students a little bit, which leads to tangents I mentioned before.

I prefer to work on essays/papers simply because I want to be an editor at a publishing company if I ever grow up, but I'd love to get other tutoring experience. I'm quite knowledgeable about a lot of things having to do with literature, and I just received an A on my senior thesis at UC Merced, which, incidentally, I just graduated from.

I was a writing tutor for two years during my career at UC Merced, and I received my CRLA tutor certification. I helped a lot of students receive a lot better grades on their papers. I'm really good with noticing where you could say more and what seems irrelevant. But most of all, I want to help you see where you are making choices that are keeping you from getting that A+. Anyone is capable of getting A's, they just need to open their eyes.

Writing

I'm really great at showing you where you have mistakes that will keep you from getting your desired grade. I don't see why anyone should get less than an A, but teachers don't necessarily show their students a good explanation of why their paper missed the mark. I do.

Literature

I just graduated with a BA in English literature, so I have a lot of experience reading and analyzing material under my metaphorical belt. Need I say more? Yes, you say? Well, I received a grade of an A on my senior thesis, a capstone project where I wrote a 20 page paper on interesting points of "A Game of Thrones" by George R. R. Martin. That, I think, is a pretty good indicator of my skill with English Literature.

Proofreading

I have previous experience as an English tutor and I will help you improve your writing to make sure you don't have to come back. (I teach you, I don't simply make notes on your paper saying "no comma here").

TOEFL

I can help with learning idioms and phrases that don't translate directly from English to other languages. I have taken one semester of university-level French and three semesters of university-level German.

I was also an English writing tutor for two years as an undergraduate student.
