Hello,

While mathematics is the quintessential coherent internally consistent abstract logical system, I like emphasizing its practical applications.

I've tutored math at Wallenberg Traditional H.S., SFSU, HSU, CCSF, and also done voluntary tutoring. I tutored mostly in calculus, algebra, trigonometry, plane geometry, etc. I can also tutor in ordinary differential equations and basic chemistry.

Additionally, I have a portfolio of mathematical proofs, and solved problems in advanced mathematileics I've worked out. Recently I completed all requirements for the BA in mathematics. I'll receive the BA in 2013. I have a great deal to offer students in the way of a good education in mathematics.

I also like to mention, appropriately, some of the giants in mathematics, e.g., I. Newton, G.W. Leibniz, Leonhard Euler, and others. During the 20th century I consider Cassius J. Keyser to be one outstanding mathematician. While my tutoring will not focus on a history of mathematics, it is a good idea for students to have a sense of the origins and development of key mathematical concepts.

Algebra 1

I'm proficient in all topics in algebra 1 & 2.

I'm confident that I can tutor well in prealgebra, precalculus, and calculus. I'm very good with the TI-89 scientific graphing calculator, as well as with software like Mathematica, Maple 13, and MathType.

Algebra 2

I'm thoroughly proficient in this subject.

Calculus

I've tutored in calculus 1,2,& 3 before. I am confident that I will be able to help students understand calculus from the ground up. I can explain differentiation by several methods, as well as prove the basic formulas for differentiating typical functions. I'm also good at integration. Prealgebra

Algebra is a generalization of arithmetic. I will have no problem in getting willing and able students to understand prealgebra. I'm considering writing a text on prealgebra, emphasizing aspects that conventional texts overlook.

Precalculus

I am confident that I will have students prepared for calculus after tutoring them in precalculus. I would stress the importance of understanding analytic geometry, the equations for the slope of a line, proficiency in algebra and trig., etc. Understanding the binomial theorem, mathematical induction, and the concept of the limit of a function are also critically important.

Trigonometry

I would correlate trig. somewhat with plane geometry. In my opinion, trig. is easier than plane geometry. Learning plane and solid geometry is good training in critical thinking, doing proofs, and is very good preparation for trig., as well as calculus.

SAT Math

I'll have most students prepared for the SAT math test. I'm sure that after tutoring them their score on the SAT will improve. Of course, I'm referring to students willing to study hard and pay attention to my instructions.

Elementary Math

My proficiency in calculus, differential equations, and other areas of advanced mathematics imply my proficiency in elementary math.
