I am a UC Davis graduate: Winter 2012. My degree is in Biological Sciences with an emphasis on Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior.
SPECIALIZE in TUTORING FOR:
I have tutored throughout my time at UC Davis and continue until this day through various websites. Having tutored for over six years, I have worked with students grade k-12. Three of those six years, I worked at Kumon: Learning Center further polishing my knowledge on the subject matter.
STATEMENT OF TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
My goal as an instructor is to simplify the subject matter into basic and understandable concepts. Basic concepts that help increase the self-confidence of students and leave them unintimidated by the subject matter. I aim to facilitate the understanding of the material by using diagrams, pictures, and repetition. Another goal I have when instructing is to ensure that students develop a strong foundation. This strong foundation is essential to being able to learn new and challenging concepts.
I am extremely comfortable giving instruction in Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Geometry, Algebra I, Algebra II: all the way down to basic mathematics. Throughout my schooling, my favorite subject has been math! As a tutor, I take personal enjoyment from mentoring my students and ensuring that they excel in their respective classes. All students I have worked with have seen remarkable improvement: this I can guarantee. I have a strong passion for mathematics in which I take into account the real world application behind math and shed this light to my students. I have a deep understanding of how students learn and process information; thus, I cater my unique explanations to their current level of understanding. Overall, I am very adept at breaking down the fundamentals and conveying information in an easily understandable form.
While at UCD, I have taken multiple Biology Courses (BIS 2a-c, BIS 101-104, etc). I have extensive knowledge in biology from introductory sciences, genetics, biomolecules, etc. I also have taken 6 quarters of Chemistry up to Organic Chemistry. Additionally, I have taken many Human Physiology Courses in associated with my emphasis (NPB 100, NPB 101, NPB 168, etc.). Having taken multiple courses at the college level, I have grown very passionate about the innate functions of the human body and feel very comfortable teaching Biology/Chemistry/Physiology. I truly love the sciences and understand that science does not come naturally to all students; therefore am very patient and encouraging when instructing students. (Able to provide additional information in regards to preparatory subject matter upon request!)
Studied Spanish for 4 years in high school, and further improved by taking 3 quarters of college level Spanish. I also spent a semester abroad at the University of Córdoba, Spain taking classes that were all strictly taught in Spanish. I tested into the highest level of Spanish offered by my program and excelled. The semester resulted with me receiving A's in all of my classes. During this time, I lived with a host family that did not speak a word of English; thus, I advanced my understanding of Spanish to develop friendships and bonds with those around me. Having lived in Spain for almost four months, I have come to truly appreciate the language, music, and culture.
