Personable, effective English, Math and Science Tutor

I'm an expert in working with students to develop skills and to understand concepts. My expertise is especially strong in problem solving, and applying concepts to real world situations. I enjoy working with students. When my son was in college, we used to problem solve on the phone and via email. His classmates wanted him to "rent me out".

I'm a 25-year veteran of Silicon Valley with multiple degrees in Engineering. I am currently an Adjunct Professor at the Golden Gate University School of Business. I teach graduate-level courses in Business-to-Business Marketing, with a focus on technology marketing. This focus encompasses all aspects of the business of marketing, including P&L calculations, margin analysis, ROI analysis, and budgeting. Technologies covered include servers, storage, cloud computing, and social media. In addition, twenty years of marketing has honed my understanding and expertise in the art of writing.

I enjoy working in a teaching mode with kids. I have been active with the Boy Scouts for 20 years, and counseled scouts in several merit badge categories, including Personal Fitness, Computing, and Citizenship. I spent three semesters working with Junior Achievement in the Palo Alto and Mountain View School Districts.

Study Skills

I have experience in developing skills for grade school and high school students. I am raising two boys, one of whom suffers from ADHD and required extensive home coaching on study skills, I have worked with other students as a tutor. I am proficient in math and writing skills, and in helping to develop efficient and lasting skills such as outlining, estimating and mnemonic learning.

Logic

I have advanced degrees in Electrical Engineering. Digital systems design and management is based on the Boolean algebra and symbolic logic. I applied the principles during eight years as an electrical engineer at one of the premier design centers in the world. In addition, I have taken multiple courses in logic both mathematical and philosophical. I am an adjunct professor and am well-versed in the pedagogical methods needed to tutor this discipline.

Electrical Engineering

I have multiple degrees in electrical engineering. I worked as an Electrical Engineer at one of the premier R&D institutions - Bell Laboratories. In my career in Silicon Valley I have had responsibility for Product Marketing for some of the most complex products in the industry, which required daily application of my EE skills. To do my job I was required to maintain my currency in the prevailing technology, and thus to practice my EE skills .

Chemistry Master — Jim is a wonderful Chemistry tutor. He is patient, very intelligent, relaxed and easy to work with, and he can even crack a good joke. He tutored me in basic Chemistry and is moving on with me to an upper level class. Now that we have been working together, I couldn't imagine getting through next semester without him!
