Hello! My name is Luke and I would love the opportunity to be your tutor. I graduated from Santa Teresa High School in San Jose in 2003, having finished the SAT with a score of 1490. I then moved to Santa Barbara to attend UCSB, and I completed a double major in Psychology and Communication, graduating in 2007 with a 3.28 GPA. Soon after graduating, I studied for and passed the CBEST and began substitute teaching for 3 local school districts. While I spent most of my time as a substitute teacher instructing entire classes, I was also worked one on one with children with special needs who had individual aides that were out for the day as well. During this period, I also studied for completed the GRE, and received a score of 590 on the verbal section, 760 on the quantitative section, and 5.0 on the written analysis section.
In addition to my work for the school districts, I also worked for the Santa Barbara YMCA for about 5 years in the Childcare, Aquatic, and Front Desk departments. Some of the duties I performed for the YMCA include starting an adaptive swim program for children with disabilities; helping with an exercise program for teenagers with disabilities; training other staff on the Americans with Disabilities Act, CPR, First Aid, lifeguarding, and swim instruction; and attending resident summer camps as a counselor.
During this period, I studied for completed the GRE, and received a score of 590 on the verbal section, 760 on the quantitative section, and 5.0 on the written analysis section. I moved to San Francisco in 2010 and worked full time in a sales position while working on graduate school applications. I was accepted to San Francisco State University in their Developmental Psychology program, and began this past summer. I plan on spending the next two years determining exactly how I want to apply my degree, but in the meantime, hope to maintain my experience working with children in an educational setting.
