My name is Nicole. I am originally from Australia and have lived in the United States for the past 13 years. I obtained my BA degree (2002) in Psychology from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL where I also played Division 1 field hockey for 4 years. After graduating, I worked in Chicago in the legal field for a few years prior to attending graduate school. I obtained my MA degree in Forensic Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2008. I then decided to try something new and moved the San Francisco where I have resided for the past 3 years. During that time I have been working for a Mental Health insurance company providing phone counseling and assistance with insurance benefits. In my spare time I enjoy traveling, reading, trying new restaurants, spending time with friends, and playing sports.
I am currently in my second year of a doctorate program at Alliant International University where I am studying Forensic Psychology. I have recently started my clinical training and am working at a middle school in Oakland, CA providing individual, group, and milieu therapy for students in a Counseling Enriched Special Day Class. I am also currently teaching an online undergraduate psychology course through Lincoln College of New England.
I very much enjoy interacting with students and find that I often learn as much from them (if not more!) as they do from me. I am generally very easy going and prefer learning to be a collaborative and positive experience for everyone involved. My expectations of the student include being engaged, as prepared as possible, and open to learning. I understand that school can be a very stressful experience, not only with regard to learning, but also navigating the social world and finding your own voice.
My favorite subjects/areas of interest and expertise include: psychology, history, English, writing, reading, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling to name a few. As I am currently in school myself I am constantly writing papers, doing research and presentations, and maintaining effective time management skills.
