In my counseling work with students over the years, I have assisted in assembling entire college application packets. Through this process, as well as, professional research, I've gained a wealth of knowledge about colleges. I specialize in the UC system and California's private colleges. However, my knowledge base includes the Ivy Leagues and all major privates nationwide. I study the student and his/her desires, along with family input, in order to recommend appropriate university settings.
I hold my Cross-Culture, Language and Development Credential. Therefore, I have had very specific training in how to teach English as a Second Language. I use a variety of activities in my lessons so they're interesting and learning-centered. We focus on conversation, vocabulary, grammar, writing and reading. The lessons are always tailored to the individual student's needs. Each of my students has achieved very positive results!
Whether one is speaking of formal oration or simply having a less formal conversation in the office or at school, public speaking can be nerve-racking! I can help you take the jitters (and sweaty palms) out of speaking in front of others. We will explore steps for you to feel more confident and relaxed in expressing yourself!
In my work as an educator, I teach my public speaking students the art of oration, which is an essential skill to acquire for engaging in today's market place. They learn my twelve step process for gearing up to speak, which includes: "Knowing Your Topic!", "Don't Say You're Nervous: Control!", and "Visualize Yourself as King/Queen!"
Additionally, whether it is to take a stance on a central, meaningful argument and debate or to present a poem or monologue, I give my students ample opportunity to become comfortable and proficient speaking in front of others. Learning to speak publicly doesn't have to feel like a trip to the dentist, it can actually be enjoyable and confidence-building!
It is vital that students maintain good study skills in order to be successful. I have helped my students, as long as I've been a teacher, to learn and maintain such skills. Organization and timeliness are two main areas which frequently must be reinforced. I work closely with the student, often on a one-to-one basis, to ascertain which skills exist and which need to be instilled. We chart, graph and use whatever other means necessary to build this skill set over time, so the student meets the end goal of being more successful in his or her endeavors.
