Hi! I was a Ph.D. student in Political Science who left with a M.A. after being a Teaching Assistant for three years. As a TA, I consistently received outstanding evaluations and was twice commended by the Dean of Social Sciences, so I know how to connect with students and explain things in a way you can understand. I am a very patient person as long as you work with me, and I think that that's half the battle of being a good teacher. Too often teachers forget what it was like not to know their subject. They've been doing it so long, they start to think of students who don't immediately understand what it took them years to learn as dumb, rather than as in need of guidance. I hate that.
I have a M.A. and a B.A. in Political Science, a B.A. in History, and have been published in three magazines, so I can teach political science/government, history, and writing. I also received a 34 on my ACT and over 1400 on both the SAT and the GRE (6.0 in Writing), so I am comfortable teaching each of those tests, both math and reading.
I also think everyone deserves a good education, so I would be willing to consider substantially lowering my rate for those who go to disadvantaged schools (I will find a way to measure this).
Good luck in your search!
