Hello! I am a doctoral candidate in the department of Rhetoric at UC Berkeley who has years of tutoring and teaching experience. In addition to several years teaching at UC Berkeley, I have privately tutored for the following tests: SSAT, ACT, SAT, LSAT, and GRE. I have also worked with clients in reading and writing skills, aided students with college and graduate school applications, and I have done work with youth (high school and middle school) on general education work.
My style is based upon experiential learning. I want students to learn to assess their skill sets, and then I want them to take the steps to improve what needs improvement. How and what a student does to improve is often tailored to his/her interests and ability. For example, if a student needs to improve vocabulary and is interested in Science Fiction, we will approach vocabulary building by reading Science Fiction together and then working on words that appear in the story.
I always strive to keep realistic expectations and open, engaged communication.
