I have been a teacher all my adult life. The diversity of my expertise may surprise the reader because I am a professional musician, a dedicated scholar and life-long learner. I teach all ages, up through master's level students. I'm a preceptor to new teachers. Understanding teaching modalities and learning styles is key.

Among my competencies are the ability to tutor writing, reading and literature,history, public speaking and organizational skills for kids with learning challenges.

I have a Masters degree in music pedagogy, and as an award-winning singer of such competitions as the Metropolitan Auditions, I have extensive performance experience. I have taught voice for a number of years, as well as foreign language diction, musicianship and related subjects. I am a member of the Society of Authors, Composers and Publishers (ASCAP), and write songs under my GoshGusMusic registration.

Writing prose, poetry, lyrics and essays are a passion of mine. I regularly contribute popular and classical music concert reviews to a few widely read online sources.

My most treasured moments as a teacher come when, having seemingly exhausted all the metaphors I know to explain a concept, I somehow pull one more from the air, and hear those exciting words from a student, "I get it!" We celebrate the moment, and take our inspiration to face the next challenge.

Composition (Music)

I hold a BA in music, which required a great deal of study in musical composition, theory and analysis and history. I am finishing an MFA in musical performance and pedagogy. I've been a professional musician all my adult life, and teach at the high school and university level. I enjoy teaching, and would love to help you no matter you age or level of experience.

Ear Training

Ear training (often called "aural skills) is one of several foundational skills required of musicians and singers of all types.In ear training, we learn to listen to forms, intervals and patterns, and the relationship to what is written. As a university music teacher, I am qualified to teach all levels and ages in this subject, and many tricks and games to make this experience fun and practical.

I've been teaching & tutoring kids and adults for twenty-five years. I am skilled in both remedial and advanced learning, and really good at helping kids get organized and be more productive. Sewing
