I am a tutor of writing, English, and history. My students learn to craft clear and persuasive essays, to bring their voice into their writing, and to use evidence to highlight and support their ideas. I also help students doing research papers. If you are gearing up for the SAT or ACT, I am outstanding as a tutor of the English and Writing portions of those exams.

My background includes five years as a university professor and three years as a tutor in the LA area. In addition to my doctorate degree, my achievements include two published academic articles on United States culture and history, and I have received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award (2011, 2012) for my dedication as a tutor.

In my tutoring, I am engaged, patient, and prepared to try different approaches. I recognize and affirm every student's efforts and ideas. I insist that students use the tutoring session to work hard and practice good habits such as staying focused and asking questions. Let our work begin!

Social Studies

My dissertation researched the history of the civil rights movement and how it changed American culture. I have published two historical articles. As a visiting professor at Ohio University (2007 to 2009), I taught courses on U.S. history and popular culture, including courses titled "Foundations of African American Art and Culture" and "American Film and Social History."
