As a working applications engineer with 14 years experience in embedded communications systems I am very familiar with software design, C programming and the Linux operating system. The use of open source tools and compilers and cross compilers (emacs, vi, gcc, SDCC) as well as commercial cross compilers are areas I am fully conversant in. I started tutoring my son, a college student, in software using Unix and can easily do the same for any student. I have presented courses in complex system design and software integration internationally - I speak at technical conferences discussing complex software systems - and have written 2 books.
In addition to software, I am also very conversant in AP physics since my daughter took this course and I am her tutor. Applying mathematics to physical world problems is an area that I can assist students in. Understanding the problem, identifying relevant equations, and then proceeding with solution is a 3 step process that never fails when applied correctly. Because I have taught a wide range of individuals, I can quickly understand where difficulties in learning may lie and address the "block" by teaching a process to be used in solving problems.
I typically teach by using example problems and building knowledge through presenting additional problems of greater complexity. Students will learn how to identify specific characteristics of problems through exposure to different examples.
