I am a California credentialed Teacher. I was born in Padova, in Northern Italy, where I spent most of my life and where I studied Architecture and Interior Design before moving to the USA in 1988.
I attended the New York State College of Design at Alfred University, where I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts with a Minor in Art History.
During this great experience in college I was so impressed by the interest in learning Italian shown by many students that I started teaching Italian just for fun and really fell in love with teaching my native language and the culture of my country. It was a unique opportunity to communicate to students my knowledge about the Italian culture and history beside teaching the language.
When I moved to San Diego I started teaching Italian at S.D.S.U. while I was a graduate student there.
Since then I had many requests for teaching Italian, and taught at S.D.S.U.,the Italian Cultural Center (I.C.C.) in Little Italy and in many public schools and private institutions in San Diego.
At the I.C.C. I implemented a successful course for advanced adult students titled “Conversation on Art in Italian”.
Since the year 2000 I have been attending seminars and workshops in Los Angeles and in Italy, sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Education and focused on second language acquisition and on the newest language teaching methods.
I am a proud recipient of the scholarship “The Art of teaching Italian through Italian Art, in Rome,” a summer seminar and Institute in Rome, sponsored by the N.E.H. (National Endowment for the Humanities).
The seminar was a great learning experience for me, which I intend to pass on to my students.
In my classes I use a variety of teaching methods in order to reach every student, but prefer to apply an interactive learning method where the students dive into Italian language from the first class.
My students say that my classes are fun, entertaining, and effective. Besides learning how to speak Italian, students also learn the culture, the arts, and the history, of Italy.
My expertise varies from languages to Visual Arts. I find that Italian language and Visual Art are the perfect match to combine and use in teaching.
