I am an experienced tutor and teacher, recently returned from spending two years in Burkina Faso, West Africa, teaching pre-calculus at a local, French-speaking high school as a Peace Corps volunteer. Having majored in Mathematics and minored in French, I've become very proficient with both subjects; this confidence was strengthened while I was using them both as a formal high school teacher. Additionally, I lived in France for five years, which helped develop very strong and natural French language skills. I also spent one year tutoring in Seattle, WA, working with special needs students pursuing their GEDs.
I am an effective tutor because of my skill in assessing my student's needs, but also because of my ability to empathize with young learners. I believe there is always an unseen angle that each learner can use to make the subject material more accessible and interesting. When tutoring, I look for how to bring the lesson into the context of the student's life and interests, while keeping study diligent and rigorous. I actually use this method for my own studies, keeping language learning fresh and pertinent with lots of engaging study material. Because of my extensive experience as both the teacher and the learner, I am confident that I can present any student with an interesting study plan which integrates motivation that is relevant with progress in the subject.
I look forward to working with you!
