I am a Speech Therapist / Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) who is board certified by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), and licensed by the state of California. I also hold a California teaching credential in the area of Clinical Rehabilitative Services (CRS). Education is my passion!
I have worked with children of all ages (PreK to high school) in the PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM for the vast majority of my 18+ year career as a speech therapist. I've worked extensively with students in all academic areas and have a knack for finding an avenue for effective studying and understanding. There are as many learning styles as there are people, and knowing what works for you as an individual is key to efficient learning. I've also loved supporting teachers, providing ideas about modifying teaching approaches and expanding modalities to meet the needs of a wide variety of children in the general education and special education settings.
I've supported students, parents and teachers at countless Student Support Team (SST) meetings, and participated in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for an estimated average of 65 children per year throughout my career that spans over 18 years. I understand how the educational system works and can provide insight and advice in this area if needed. I am also available to attend meetings with you and help guide you through the referral, IEP, and placement process, which can be overwhelming. My style is very team-oriented. I feel that an adversarial approach is counterproductive and can sabotage the very results you are trying to achieve, which includes a healthy, positive, and productive atmosphere for all involved. Please feel free to contact me to discuss your unique needs. I offer a 30 minute FREE phone consultation. :)
Over the past 6 months I have branched out of the school setting and begun to work with little ones UNDER AGE 3 in their homes, who are slow to develop language. I have been seeing amazing results in as few as 3-4 sessions. I am available to consult with you (maybe visit a playgroup?) to talk about what works. I can show you how to implement simple strategies in language and play which facilitate early language development. This is tremendously rewarding for me... if you have any concerns about your little one, please feel free to contact me. I offer a 30 minute FREE phone consultation. :)
Additionally, I have specialized training and experience in ACCENT MODIFICATION, also known as Accent Reduction or Standard American English Approximation. I love helping individuals who speak English as their second language to acquire a more natural sounding accent. Regardless of the reason for it, if you are serious about making a change, let's talk! I am available for private sessions or group sessions with an emphasis on sound production, gaining more "natural" sounding speech, English vocabulary development, and instruction in idiomatic expressions ("slang"), all of which help you sound more like a native American English speaker. Enhance your credibility and hire-ability. Minimize distractions from the message you are conveying. Be an effective, confident communicator. Contact me today! :)
Thank you for reading, and have a beautiful day... Talk soon! Kerry
