I am a classically trained singer, 24 years old, and absolutely love teaching voice. Nebraska raised, I recently moved to San Diego to further my musical education and career. I have been singing since the age of three, and cannot imagine doing anything else. I love fostering and nurturing the love of music in my students, and nothing is more exciting and rewarding than watching them grow in their craft. I have two years experience as a private voice teacher, primarily teaching students in the 13-19 year old range, although I have had students from ages 8-55!
I believe that all styles of singing need a strong core. I begin by teaching my students the basics in the style of classical singing, I feel that it provides a solid foundation to support any other style. My main, immediate focus is the basics: Breathing, Posture, Musical Theory, Diction, etc. I assess the student's vocal abilities, usually through some sort of technique exercise, try to identify and isolate their vocal "faults" and then work with the student to correct those "faults." I also focus very heavily on telling a story with music. Singers need to learn that storytelling and singing are one in the same. I use my own performing and acting experience to find a student's particular style of storytelling. And of course, singing is FUN, so I try my best to make each lesson as enjoyable as possible.
