Although I have no formal education beyond high school, I'm one of those people that is excellent at teaching themselves to do things, and in turn am able to easily teach others. Traditional education is just not something that I learn well from. I've always had a natural flair for literature, and was reading way above my grade level in school. Writing naturally followed, although it took years of practice before I was at a level in which I was comfortable with how I write. My writing experience comes from observation of life, people, and the world. The more you understand about the flow of conversations, the way that people are and how they speak, the better your writing will be. As for the technical aspects of writing, most of that was acquired from reading some of the all-time great authors and recognizing patterns amongst them. I have impeccable grammar and am able to explain how grammar operates in a simple, easy to understand manner.
I also teach Martial Arts, and have 8 years of experience in Shotokan Karate.
My credentials are not traditional, but I've written short films, and am in the process of writing a novel. I tested out of high school at 16 with almost a perfect score on the English portion of the exam. As stated before, writing and reading have been a big part of my life since I could walk, and I'm happy to pass along all of what I know to people who are interested in learning.
My tutoring experience is currently minimal, but in the small amount that I have done, I have found that I do a fairly good job. The more that I put myself out there as a tutor, the more experience I hopefully will get, and that will allow me to build a larger student base and be able to, in turn, learn more about tutoring optimally. The reason I'm charging a fairly low rate for right now is because of my lack of experience tutoring. I do not lack any amount of experience in my subject(s), however.
As a tutor, I'm able to work toward whatever goal the student wants to achieve, be that improving their reading skills, or acquiring more experience at any level of writing. If there are specific areas that they are struggling with, then those can be focused on and improved rather than the general concepts as a whole, or whatever else is required to generate the optimal experience for the student. I work well in a 1 on 1 environment, and am quite proficient in explaining things in a way that the student can understand, once I get a feel for how they work. Flexibility is very important in a field like this, and I definitely have that. I have a very free schedule, and am able to travel if need be. I can work with any level from elementary school to college, and any skill level.
