I tutor math, test prep, and Spanish with patience and focus, and I love to help students succeed and build confidence in their skills. I sincerely believe that no question is ever stupid, because sometimes it just takes the right starting point or concept in order for everything to click and move forward. My philosophy on tutoring is that it's important to find out exactly what the student's point of confusion is so that I can help him/her build a foundation. My job is to listen and find out how to help, and then make sure that learning goals are met. I believe that good study skills are important, and I try to set an example on how to organize an approach to a problem and how to think critically and logically about it in order to succeed in solving it.
I have experience tutoring all levels of math and all types of students. I have tutored high school students in my neighborhood, and my own son, so I am familiar with high school math assignments and textbooks. I taught a unit in coordinate geometry at a SDUSD high school and passed the three math CSET tests for teacher credentialing. These are just a few of my accomplishments in pursuit of exploring my own goal to teach. I have spent many years as an engineer in telecommunications, and my academic background includes math courses from algebra through calculus, linear programming and probability and statistics, along with lots of science. Math is just one of my interests and accomplishments. I am well versed in Spanish as well, including grammar and literature. I studied art and history in Spain at the University of Barcelona for a year.
