My name is Marisa M., and I am from Santa Fe, New Mexico. I am a recent graduate of the University of San Diego with a BA in Spanish and double minors in History and Asian Studies. I tutor ESL, TOFL, Literature, Writing and Comprehension, Proofreading, Spanish and Asian History. I studied abroad in Guadalajara, Mexico and in Madrid, Spain. During both trips I studied the Spanish language and culture. My BA in Spanish and my travels qualify me to be a Spanish language tutor. Not only do I have a hold on the language, but I also have an understanding of the culture, which is essential in learning a new language.
Aside from those abroad studies, I have also traveled extensively. I have been to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Thailand, India, Portugal, Holland, Belgium, France, Italy, and Tanzania. These experiences have made me tolerant and very patient. I am open to different cultures and I love to help others to further understand new cultures. I have been an ESL tutor before for a Burmese family that fled the country and came to the USA. I taught them basic and realistic everyday English. I am an excellent ESL and TOEFL prep tutor.
I am patient and look for what motivates a student to learn and then work from there. I analyze exactly where the student is having trouble and why and then we work together to understand and correct their errors.
