I have over twenty years of experience as an educator, writer, researcher, consultant, and entrepreneur in Sustainability and the Life Sciences. I am passionate and knowledgeable, inspiring, patient, and understanding. I love to share my excitement and knowledge with the public of all ages. Let me help you be everything you can be!
Presently, I write a science and nature blog with over 2500 readers worldwide, and provide Biomimicry (sustainable innovation inspired by nature) consulting, educational guidance, workshops, and writing to magazines, universities, grade schools, museums, zoos, and Fortune 500 companies. I write fiction and non-fiction, and I love it!
I graduated with an undergraduate degree (with Honors) in Biology/Ecology and Fine Art from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1991. I worked as a Marine Biologist, then went on to do my doctoral studies at New York University in Biological Anthropology through a scholarship award, studying population genetics, ecology, behavior, and evolution in social mammals, like whales in Madagascar and baboons in Ethiopia.
I really enjoy getting all kinds of people, especially children, hooked on science, nature, and writing. I have three boys of my own, and two of them have learning disabilities. I've gotten pretty good at keeping them engaged, focused, and feeling successful. I can do it for your kids too!
