Hello!
I am a passionate tutor, taking pride in teaching others and learning about how I can approach the individual needs of a student. Teaching all education levels, from grade school to undergraduate and graduate university students, I have had the opportunity to showcase and develop skills to explain complex scientific concepts and fundamental terms in easy-to-grasp analogies that "stick." I believe that once you "learn" information, you no longer have to "memorize." When a key concept is truly understood, application of that knowledge to solve exam problems and to build on for supplemental courses, comes automatically. There are different types of learning: through visual aids, repetition and rehearsal, or building conceptual models. I intend to derive an individualized, specific learning plan for each student so that the information they require is not only learned, but enjoyed.
I have been nominated for and awarded recognition for my teaching ability, both in a laboratory environment and a lecture hall setting. I have tutored students privately and in groups, depending on their preference, in order to assist them through difficult courses that require more detailed lessons, especially those at the university level. I have great organizational skills and my attention to detail is emphasized when preparing students for exams. I have assisted students by meeting once for exam preparation, or regularly throughout the course of a subject. I am friendly and approachable, providing a comfortable learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and voicing concerns. My schedule is flexible and I will work with my student to tailor a cost and time period for their individual learning needs.
