My name is John and I look forward to working with you as a private tutor.

I specialize in ESL training, and TOEFL, ACT, SAT preparations. In my profile, you will see my son who is attending MIT graduate school of engineering and is currently interning with NASA. It will be my privilege and honor to help you, along with your son or daughter to achieve the highest educational and citizenship goals in life. My style of teaching is wholesome, all-rounded, academically challenging, and yet; always answering the students' question: why and how? I am a Korean-American who has lived in the U.S. for 50 years. I have a Graduate MBA Degree, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College degree, a certified ESL teaching degree, and professionally, I am a retired Lieutenant Colonel last posting as a U.S. Diplomat in the Far East Asia region.

In the last two years, I have been busy working with my youngest son to raise his ACT score while teaching him ESL. His ACT scores improved as such: 14, 18, 24, 27, and now 35. He is applying to go to Stanford University. As for me, I enjoy teaching and learning concurrently working with the students. Therefore, it is a two way process with my style of tutoring. Communications will never get in the way, as I speak five languages: English, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, and German. English is my strongest forte.

SAT tests are divided into 25 minute sections. Total of 10 sections.
Total time: 3 hours and 45 minutes for entire test.

SAT Writing

SAT Writing Improvement:
Back to grammar basics. Don't worry, you were taught this in 7th and 8th grade. It is a matter of how much you practiced the rules on a daily basis. Yes, SAT tests your knowledge of basic grammar rules. Adverbs, Adjectives, Modifiers, Prepositions, Parallel Structure, Verbs, Nouns, Phrases, Clauses, Conjunctions. Don't worry, no big deal. Learn the rules and practice.

ACT Reading

ACT reading score improvement:
Timed event. Speed is critical for success.
40 questions in 35 minutes. You must answer one question in less than a minute. You are not reading as in school. You are reading to answer the question directly. Process of Elimination. Direct your reading to find the right answer.

ACT English

Raise your ACT English score:
Review and practice editing skills.
Identify grammar and punctuation errors.
Sentence structures and organization.
ACT time management and training strategies.
Relax and breathe. Positive thinking. Act quickly, it is a sprint race -- not a marathon.

ACT Math

Raise your ACT math score:
60 questions in 60 minutes. 1 per minute basically. Typically 33 algebra, 23 geometry, and 4 trigonometry....no calculus. Don't worry. What you learned in school as a junior/senior levels puts you in the driver's seat. It is a matter of training and practicing a timed event. You need to feel the need for speed. Fun stuff. "Top Gun" style.

ACT Science

Raising ACT Science test scores:
It really isn't science per se. It should be called reading about science. All the information is given in the reading passage and the answer is in the questions and answers. Be comfortable with graphs and tabulated information. You can actually take the test without knowing science. It is all in the reading passage given to you. Consider it as another reading test. Cool.
