I tutored my fellow classmates and some of my younger friends while attending middle and high school. I graduated #5 in my senior class with a GPA of a 4.25 on the 5 point scale.
After graduating, I went on to attend Francis Marion University where I began working in the Mathematics Lab as a true first semester freshman. The Math Lab consisted of 4 classrooms that were sectioned off in one huge classroom. The self-paced classrooms started out in Algebra I and went all the way to Calculus I. My job was to go in any one of the 4 classrooms whenever a student raised his/her hand indicating that they were in need of assistance. Therefore, I had to deal with questions ranging from fairly easy to reasonably hard on a daily basis. I did this the entire 4 and 1/2 years that I spent in college. After graduating, I went on to work as a Math Tutor in Florence-Darlington Technical College's Math Lab and its Student Success Center from 2001-2007 while also holding down another full time job.
I still tutor family members and friends whenever the opportunity arises.
What separates me from other tutors is all of my experience and the fact that I came along before the high-technology calculators. My main different, BUT DEFINITELY EFFECTIVE, teaching method is that I still like using pencil and paper. Therefore I can show all of my work an all of the steps it takes to get to the solution when solving a problem before I move on to my Graphing Calculator!
