School is not for everyone. There are times when an individual needs one on one instruction which includes many different formats and styles of learning. I have taught for twenty-one years and am experienced in reaching out to even the most reluctant of learners. Together we explore ways of learning that will meet the students' needs. I have worked with children who have learning disabilities as well.

I have a Masters in education and many graduate hours beyond this. I have taught grade levels from preschool to 8th grade. I specialize in language arts for grades 7through college level. I can tutor in any subject grades K- 6th. My philosophy is to share my enthusiasm for learning and help guide an individual to their full potential. Learning is not done in the same fashion for everyone. I believe in differentiating to meet the person's learning style. What works for some in a classroom setting may not always meet the real needs of an individual.

I also volunteer within my community and have been involved with youth groups. My hobbies are to stay active by walking, exercising, gardening, and golfing to name a few. I can honestly say that I believe that understanding each individual's needs is of utmost importance. I look at the whole child to tailor lessons. It is important to instill a positive approach to learning at all times.

Elementary (K-6th)

I taught elementary for 11 of my 21 years of teaching. I love any of these ages and grades and feel very confident that I could make a difference in your child's ability to succeed. I use many hands on approaches to learning any subject. Teaching with a positive attitude and with enthusiasm is what I believe in.

Study Skills

Study skills is often what students lack, which causes extreme frustrations for student, parents, and the teacher. There are numerous ways in which a student can be successful just by learning to be organized. What works for one student may not work for another. There are also ways to discover how a student learns best, for example, with just simple note taking devices students can develop more awareness of their own responsibility to learning.

ADD/ADHD

All children, even those with ADD/ ADHD, are capable of learning. I have taught for 21 years and I am experienced in knowing that shorter lessons with a lot of variance works best for this kind of student. Often times these students are deemed to have behavioral problems because they do not "fit" the usual student mold. One on one teaching helps to secure confidence and helps in keeping the focus on learning.

Autism

I have taught school for 21 years and have worked each year with students within a regular classroom who are autistic. I am experienced with how certain students respond to different methods of teaching to optimize learning. I also am very much aware of the different degrees of autism and feel very confident that I could be affective in helping your child.

Dyslexia

I have had some training with dyslexic students. I have taught for 21 years and have always accepted such students with this very kind of problem in my classroom.
