I went to UC Berkeley for a B.A. in Sociology. I'm currently preparing for a PhD program in Clinical Psychology. I've tutored in various subjects for years, including test-based tutoring (such as the SAT and AP exams) as well as general tutoring - help through the course of a year or semester in Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, etc. I've worked with students of all ages, from teaching elementary and middle school students basic math to working with local high school students on geometry and calculus courses and SATs to helping local college students on their math curricula.

In addition to my tutoring experience, I received formal tutor training in effective tutoring methods at the San Diego Miramar College. I received 800's on both my SAT I and SAT II Math, and 5s on my AP Calculus AB, BC, and AP Chemistry exams. Although I am proficient in various subjects, mathematics is my favorite subject to tutor.

I love teaching because helping students improve and achieve their academic goals is very rewarding. I strive to help students become independent learners through building their confidence in mastering the material. I engage and motivate students to master the material through providing positive feedback. I actively seek feedback to tailor my teaching approach to the student's unique learning style. I encourage strong study habits and foster confidence that the students will retain throughout their academic careers and beyond.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 lays the foundation for the majority of math and science classes students will take in high school and college. I help students understand the principles involved and build confidence in their skills an abilities. I observe the students' problem solving process and provide constructive feedback. My goal is to make learning the material easy and enjoyable.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 builds on the foundation of Algebra 1 and covers more complex topics such as trigonometry, advanced function analysis, and provides the foundation for calculus. I help students understand the principles involved and build confidence in their skills an abilities. I observe the students' problem solving process and provide constructive feedback. My goal is to make learning the material easy and enjoyable.

Calculus

I've tutored Calculus and Precalculus for year to high school and college students. I took three years of Calculus: Calculus AB, BC, and III (Multivariable Calculus). I received all A's and 5's on the AP Exams for both Calculus AB and BC.

Geometry

I have experience teaching geometry concepts to many children and older students. I present the material in an easy-to-understand fashion, and make sure to make the process enjoyable. I make sure that students understand how to translate word problems into equations, definitions of geometric terms, proofs, and theorems.

Physics

I took regular and Advanced Placement Physics in high school with all A's. I also took the SAT II Physics Subject Test.

SAT Math

I received 800 on both the SAT I Math and SAT II Math sections, and I tutored a high school junior student in SAT Math for half a year.

SAT Writing

My score was in the 93rd percentile for SAT I Writing.

ASVAB

I have extensive experience tutoring the SATs, which is similar to the ASVAB, as well as tutoring a marine specifically in the ASVAB. In teaching the ASVAB, I rely heavily on taking actual practice tests from the numerous study materials available for the test.

ESL/ESOL

I had to learn English myself when I moved to the US over ten years ago. I learned English in one year and was accepted to UC Berkeley two years later. I have experience teaching English/ESL to elementary and middle school children for over a year.

Russian

I am a native Russian speaker who came to the United States over ten years ago. I learned English in one year and was accepted to UC Berkeley two years later. I have six months experience translating between Russian and English in the business sector, as well as over a year of experience tutoring Russian to K-12 and college students.

Differential Equations

I took AP Calculus AB and BC at Westview high with all A's and 5's on the AP exam, as well as third semester calculus (Multivariable Calculus) at UC Berkeley. I have extensive experience tutoring high school and college students, and I tutored Calculus at the PLACE in Miramar college.

College Counseling

I have experience providing college counseling to many middle- and high school students. Having gone through the process of applying to many private and UC schools--and being accepted to UC Berkeley--I have a lot of knowledge of the insides and outs of getting into the best college.

Sociology

I received a B.A. in Sociology from UC Berkeley.
