Where's my daughter?? She should be the one providing the details on my approach to tutoring but since she's likely in the middle of class at middle school earning straight A's, I'll have to step up!
First a little about me and then you can read on if you would like to get an understanding of my teaching philosophy. My spouse, daughter and I moved to the San Diego area a few months ago and are settling in and enjoying the weather and all of the wonderful things to do throughout the county. My degree is in accounting from CSU Stanislaus, but my background ranges along the spectrum of job experiences from waiting tables in college to being a buyer/purchasing manager for two international clothing companies (Levi Strauss and Royal Robbins). I've held positions in retail management (FOOTACTION USA), banking (Wells Fargo) and have worked full time as a Realtor (Coldwell Banker Residential) for the last 7+ years.
I have over 15 years of experience working with computers and many forms of software, especially Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc). I am certified at over 10,000 keystrokes/minute with near 100% accuracy in Excel & type 50+wpm with 95% accuracy. I know tons of shortcuts, tips and tricks when it comes to using these programs. I am a Certified zipForms Trainer (real estate transaction software) and am constantly being sought out by my peers for assistance with computer/software related advice and help.
Now on to the part where my daughter should be filling in the blanks:
My teaching philosophy works for anything from basic reading on up to advanced algebra & specialized computer skills.
#1 I make you **think** - if you don't know the answer, that's OK! But you will think about it....
#2 I make you **read the question** - if you don't know what the question is asking, how can you answer it??
#3 I make you **try** - if you try and are still wrong, you're still closer to being right because you just eliminated an incorrect possibility.
#4 I make learning **fun** - yes, math can be fun....so can reading, grammar, and learning general computer skills.
#5 I won't **give** you the **answer** - but I will give you the ability to figure it out.
My goal is to facilitate the LEARNING process so that the individual can grasp the concepts and feel confident the next time they need to work out a problem, write that essay for an A or simply use the computer.
