With more than 30 years of experience as writer and editor at some of Southern California's larger daily newspapers, I am a skilled grammarian who can help your child improve their writing and editing skills. I have coached and edited everyone from middle school students and college interns to Pulitzer Prize winning journalists. For the beginner, I can help with the basics of sentence structure and getting one's point across. For the more experienced student, I can help turn a pedestrian writer into a pro.
My approach is to take the writing skills a student has and to build upon them. A writer must know the rules of the language, but a writer also must know how to effectively communicate his or her message. My strength is in getting a person into the habit of writing in the active voice, of using effective verbs, and in not wasting words.
