Hi! I am a recent college graduate, having earned my B.A. in Psychology from San Diego State University just last year. Although psychology and its many facets are my passion, I love many other subjects and enjoy tutoring in each. I have been a part-time tutor for about 2 years now. I have taught a wide variety of subjects, ranging from math and biology to literature and philosophy.
I thoroughly enjoy working with children and have found that there is no "best" method in tutoring, as each student's needs will vary from one to the next. Being able to adapt my tutoring techniques and practice patience have shown to be the most effective ways of helping a student.
I plan on working in the developmental field of psychology once I complete further schooling. Therefore, if my future will be dedicated to the betterment of children, why not my present? I find that I learn quite as much from students as they learn from me, but being the help they need to get through a difficult or even a simple subject would be satisfaction enough. Seeing the slow nod of understanding begin and the surprised look of comprehension and happiness on someone's face at finally grasping a concept with which he or she had difficulty is something that one never forgets!
I have a minor basic elementary education, as well as linguistics for teachers. I have also completed university level courses in all of the subjects for which I am offering tutoring.
I have mentored a few children through the YMCA Warm Hearts program and work as a volunteer counselor for underrepresented youth.
