I have more than 13 years of teaching experience at both the middle and high school levels. I am currently employed as an education specialist and co-teach in a collaborative inclusive learning environment for 11th and 12th grade ELA. Our district embraces the philosophy of having two educators, one special education teacher certified in the class subject matter, as well as having a general educator in the class at all times. I also co-teach U.S. History and Government. Two courses I co-teach are 11th grade American Literature and 12th grade Contemporary Voices. I also split my time running an ELA Transitional Resource Class for non-diploma bound students looking to enter the workforce. Here, I implement both behavior modification programs and utilize a variety of supplemental reading programs to help students reach grade level in fluency and comprehension.
In addition, I also hold a CA multiple subject credential and I am No Child Left Behind Compliant in History, Earth Science and Algebra. I have completed an action research study entitled: "Alternative Intervention Methods for the General Educator Serving Students with ADHD" and recently completed a Culminating Activity Project on Transition Resources for Adult Community Education for non-diploma bound students in the vocational setting. My teaching style can be best described as innovative, interactive and hands on. I believe that educators must utilize their students' past experiences in order to immerse them in the class curriculum.
