I have about 30 years of very successful experience in both teaching and tutoring math, from sixth grade through community college, from remedial math through pre-Calculus, both Stateside and overseas (Asia and South America). Since 1992, I’ve been teaching at a Christian school in Tecate, CA, and (most summers) since 2001 at San Diego City College as an adjunct math professor.
Other experience includes being a US Navy officer in the 1960’s and a social worker for several years thereafter. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, and an MEd degree in Mathematics Education (plus two other masters in non-math fields), all from the University of Minnesota.
My philosophy of education is pretty straight-forward: Treat students with respect and patience, give clear explanations and guidance, and always be honest.
My present students are primarily Latinos, and through interacting with them over the years, plus taking several intensive Spanish courses, I've managed to become proficient (although not totally fluent) in Spanish, and sometimes teach in Spanish.
I'll be in San Diego (and available for tutoring) weekends and holidays, and would be happy to help you with your math. Just let me know.
