I am a professional teacher, writer, and editor with a wealth of personal and professional experience in English literature, composition, and creative writing. I understand that reading, writing, and analyzing the English language and its great works can be a frustrating experience and I pride myself on being able to relate to my students' concerns by breaking down the techniques and approaches necessary to academic success in a clear and down-to-earth manner.
I earned my Master's from Columbia University (where I received several writing fellowships) and my Bachelor's from UC Riverside (from which I graduated cum laude). Additionally, I studied abroad in England and the Czech Republic.
I currently teach English literature & composition, ESL, Creative Writing, Creative Nonfiction, and Visual Language & Culture at The Art Institute of California. I also served as Senior Editor of The Princeton Review's college guidebooks division for two years. In addition to this, I'm a published poet whose work has been featured in some of the nation's most prestigious literary journals, including The Paris Review, Boston Review, The Southern Review, and elsewhere.
Having lived in several different states and countries, I understand that everyone has different educational requirements. I'm a patient, dependable, and adaptable tutor who will work with you to ensure that you not only understand the material, but develop a passion for it.
